Abstract: To study the working stability of Stepseals in main piston of hydro-pneumatic springs in a wide range of temperature, a fluid dynamic seal model is established based on mechanics of materials and hydrodynamics. The theoretical formula of Stepseals leakage is deduced. The effects of temperature, piston velocity, pre-compression ratio and groove dimensions on leakage are analyzed using film pressure data from finite element models. Results show that the increase in piston velocity, the decrease in pre-compression ratio and the increase in groove dimensions lead to more leakage of Stepseals, and higher temperature also causes more leakage in allowable temperature range.
