Abstract: The fiber optic rotary joint (FORJ) which has been widely used in the field of military, such as radar, tank and infrared detection system, is a key component between two relatively rotating systems for highspeed communication. However, when the centerline of rotation is not available for FORJ, the onaxis FORJ could not be used to transmit the optical signals. Therefore some offaxis FORJs have been developed to meet the requirements of new weapon systems. The implementation and key influential factors of offaxis FORJ are summarized. The future development of offaxis FORJ is pointed out.

Key words: optical engineering, offaxis, fiber optic rotary joint, optical signal coupling
