Abstract: A silicone ffuid (Dow corning lOcs) is used in a compressible fluid recoil mechanism as its fluid medium, its compressibility being (3 ?4)% , at normal temperature and under a pressure of 35Mpa. Thus in flowing through the throttles during the recoil phase, the fluid can create a resisting force and dissipate the recoil energy. On the other hand, by taking advantage of its compressibility, it can also store a part of the recoil energy to supply energy for the counter-recoil motion of the gun. This kind of recoil mechanism is simple, compact and reliable. It can reduce the peak of the recoil force, thus reducing the recoil force to some degree. The development, principle and typical structure of the compressible fluid recoil mechanism is introduced with its applications in normal recoil and soft recoil guns. Prospect of application of this technique is also discussed.
